Padel 2021: the Right Year
We had already sensed that padel was the hottest sport around, looking at how it boomed in the last few years here in Italy and in other new “markets”. Unfortunately, 2020, due to the Covid pandemic, was a rough year, and it was pretty hard to understand what would have happened next.
However, after the last months’ reopenings, it’s definitely clear: padel is on the cutting edge and has become Summer 2021’s “official sport”.
The opening of new courts and facilities testifies this trend. Among the new sports center dedicated to padel, there also is our brand-new Sporting Versilia, with its four panoramic courts by Padel Italiano, ready to host all the padel lovers in the Cinquale and Forte dei Marmi area.
Padel-mania: the numbers
Stating that padel is Italy’s sport of the year isn’t an exaggeration: it’s what data points out. The numbers confirm a continuous increment that no other “new” sport (new in a manner of speaking, since its origins date back to the end of the ’60s) can rely on.
Not by chance, many of Italy’s leading newspapers, such as prestigious economics newspaper il Sole24Ore, in the last few months dedicated articles to the “padel phenomenon”.

From April 2019 to April 2021, Federazione Italiana Tennis’ padel members went from about 5000 to more than 55000, while more probably have subscribed during this “red hot padel Summer”.
Padel courts as well went in just a few years from around 50 to more than 2500.
This success also has a downside; with many quick openings, not all the facilities meet the same quality standards. It’s important, therefore, to do a little research to avoid inadequate courts.
As we have already mentioned, Sporting Versilia turned to Padel Italiano, Padel Italiano, leading company when we are talking about padel courts.
Padel, the Reasons of Its Success
Numbers aren’t all that matters. It may be useful trying to understand the reasons for this success.
Why is padel the hottest sport around?
There are many answers to this question, but here you may find a few:
- It’s a “new”, but at the same time familiar sport, since it has much in common with other sports
- Even after the “novelty effect” has ended, it still provides a lot of thrills
- Basics are quite easy to learn, but at top level, it provides continuous challenges
- It’s a quick sport with very few (or even zero) “dead moments”
- It’s fun not only to play but also to watch
Of course, there are many other reasons, many of which you will only get on the padel court. That’s why we are waiting for you to come here in Versilia, inside our sports center!
